The chief administrative and industrial centre of south-eastern Poland, Rzeszow is located on both sides of the Wislok River, near the border with Ukraine and Slovakia and can be considered as the eastern outpost of the European Union. This surprisingly elegant medium-sized city boasts a beautiful square lined with some great clubs, restaurants and hotels, all enlivened by a large student population. Over 50,000 students are enrolled in Rzeszow’s nine higher education institutions which makes this city fun-loving and very energetic. So if you are looking for balance between things to do in city and treks in the mountains – this is the place for you. Rzeszow is placed at the intersection of significant transport paths meaning it is good communication centre. In Jasionka, just a few kilometres from the city centre, there is an airport which services domestic and international flights from many countries. So as far as stopovers go, this is the most promising around.
As food is one of the key ways in which we experience a place when travelling, Rzeszow reveals its advantages again. The local restaurants here serve traditional dishes prepared according to old recipes using local products. The specialties of the Podkarpackie Province include delicious white and smoked cheeses made from goat’s milk, sausages and smoked bacon, whey soup, dumplings and bread baked in cabbage leaves. Sweet and healthy honey offered here comes from the purest forests and pastures and is called „gold from the Podkarpackie region” by the locals. Rzeszów knows how to welcome and look after guests with the consequence that visitors of the region frequently want to return here. We will make sure that you will be one of them.
History of Rzeszow
Rzeszow with its friendly atmosphere has been a city welcoming to visitors for almost 700 years. Our city was granted in 1354 and grew rapidly in the 16th century after the church was commissioned and the castle fortified. Now has been the capital of the Podkarpackie Province since 1999. Rzeszow is an example of how a modern and dynamically growing agglomeration of over 180 thousand inhabitants is positioned within its historical heritage.
